About
Wakayama Prefecture is home to many rich cultural and natural heritage sites that tell the story of its long history. To preserve, enhance, and pass on this heritage to future generations, the prefecture has established and operates four museum facilities: The Museum of Modern Art, Wakayama, the Wakayama Prefectural Museum, the Wakayama Prefecture Kii-fudoki-no-oka Museum of Archaeology and Folklore, and the Wakayama Prefectural Museum of Natural History.
Of these, the three museums focusing on history and culture have launched this portal site to comprehensively and cross-sectionally present their collections and share them with people both inside and outside the prefecture. The goal is for visitors, whether they are familiar with museums or not, to explore our activities, gain new knowledge, and expand their perspectives while enjoying the experience.
This portal site is part of Wakayama Prefecture’s New Policy Initiatives, a three-year project starting from fiscal year 2022, with ongoing updates and additions. In the future, we aim to involve various museums and related institutions across the prefecture, making this platform a place to showcase the appeal of all cultural heritage in Wakayama Prefecture.
