| Remarks | 紀州の三大文人画家の一人・桑山玉洲(1746〜99)による初期（20歳代後半）の作例。虎の上半身を、縦長の画面いっぱいに配置し、毛の1本1本まで細密に描いた作品で、濃い彩色や目にほどこした金泥・緑青などにより、生々しい虎の存在感を巧みに表現している。このような毛描きの細密描写や大胆な構図処理は、沈南蘋(1682〜？)や熊斐(1712〜72)らの南蘋派や、長崎の唐絵目利・渡辺秀詮(1736〜1824)らの長崎派に玉洲が学んだことをあらわすものと思われる。落款は、「桑文爵寫」(款記)、「嗣幹之印」(白文方印)、「号玉洲」(朱文方印)、「游埶」(朱文印)。 |
