| Remarks | 中国では鶏という文字が吉と同じ発音であることから、鶏そのものに吉祥の意味があるとされた。また、花鳥画において同種の鳥を雌雄２羽描くことは、夫婦和合の象徴と考えられた。そのような意味で、本図は吉祥を主題としているものと考えられる。崖熊野(1734～1813)は、初め和歌山雑賀に住し、のち新宮に移った。一説に、南紀熊野に生まれたため、熊野と号したともいわれる。寛政2(1790)年、文学をもって藩に仕え、文化3(1806)年には『紀伊続風土記』の編纂に参与した。自らの自画賛に「弘毅之印」・「剛先」(いずれも白文方印)が据えられる。 |
