| Remarks | 『平家物語』などに描かれて広く流布した源平合戦の、一連のハイライトシーンを描く合戦図屏風である。右隻には、第一扇に源平合戦の口火を切った以仁王の挙兵に関わる宇治川の「橋合戦」、第三扇には源義経の「鵯越の坂落」、第五扇に佐々木盛綱が海を渡る「藤戸」など、合戦前半のシーンを描く。一方、左隻の第二扇には弓の名手が敵船の扇を射る有名な「那須与一」、義経が海に落とした弓を拾う「弓流し」、第一扇に平教経が大太刀を抜いて義経の舟を探し回る「能登殿最後」、第五扇に「内侍所の都入り」の各場面を描く。江戸時代後期に製作された源平合戦図屏風。別当湛増率いる熊野水軍の帰属が源平の勝敗を分けたという壇ノ浦の海戦は、左隻の右下に描かれている。船団を構成し、敵を追い詰める熊野水軍の高度な操船術は、近世の捕鯨の技術として受け継がれていったといわれる。 |
