| Remarks | 鈴屋衣をつけ、緑色の座布団に座る松阪の国学者・本居宣長(1730〜1801)の肖像である。構図は、宣長61歳自画自賛像(本居宣長記念館蔵、重要文化財)の影響がうかがわれるが、面容はかなり異なったものとなっている。画面の上部3分の2には、いずれも文政8年(1825)に、弟子の本居大平(1756〜1833)と村田春門(1765〜1836)によって宣長伝･肖像の由緒書が記され、末尾には有名な「敷島の 大和ごころを 人問はば 朝日ににほふ 山桜花」の歌が記される。この由緒書によれば、本図は宣長死後に宣長の弟子で三井松阪南家の当主・三井高匡(1789〜1856)が、自画自賛像を写し取ったものということである。 |
