| Remarks | 明治新政府が成立すると、紀州藩(和歌山藩)は、藩政改革に取り組むことを表明し、藩主徳川茂承(1844～1906)は改革推進派の津田出(1832～1905)を抜擢した。津田は、近代的な軍隊を組織し訓練するために、陸奥宗光(1844～97)の仲介により、プロシア出身のカール・カッペン(1833～1907)を招いた。カッペンは厳しく兵士を訓練したといわれるが、本図はその軍事演習の様子を描いたもので、銃や大砲の発射による煙幕があたりに立ちこめている。兵士はすべて洋装の軍服を着用し銃器を使用している。 |
