| Remarks | 作者の坂本浩雪(1800～53)は、もとは紀州藩江戸詰めの医師で、本業のかたわら本草学をも修め、その立場から画技を学んだ。しかし、その才能は非凡で、45歳にして医師をやめて、本草学の研究と絵画制作に専念した。好んで描いた桜花の絵は、「浩雪の桜」として有名で、京の三熊花顛(1730-94)・広瀬花隠(1772〜1849)と並び称されたという。本品は、対角線を意識した構図に、花と葉が同時に開くヒガンザクラを描いたもので、輪郭をやや濃くして透けるような花びらを写生画風に表現している。一方で、幹や枝はその特徴を捉えつつ、墨の濃淡や滲みでの処理にとどめて簡略化し、より花や葉がクローズアップされるような工夫をしている。画面上部の余白には、「咲き匂ほふ 色を深めて 桜花 浮かぶ由なき 香を偲ふかな」の和歌が記されているが、「夏蔭」の署名をした人物は、江戸の国学者・前田夏蔭(1793〜1864)ではないかと思われる。 |
