| Remarks | 野呂介石（1747〜1828）が、新宮から本宮にいたる熊野川九里八丁を描いた画巻。介石の跋文によると、享和2年(1802)の熊野遊覧の経験をもとに、江戸在住の紀伊藩儒･菊池西皐(元習、1769〜1813)が作って介石に贈った「遡熊野河十首」という連作の漢詩にあわせて描いたものという。本品は、介石の絵に続いて、この西皐自筆の詩がのちに合巻されている。介石は、実際の景観の一部を描きまとめているが、その筆致はかなりラフであり、西皐の詩句が真を写し絵のようなので、自らは百里の長流を短縮して概略を描いたという跋文と符合する。なお、巻頭の題字は、寛政の三博士の一人として知られる儒学者･柴野栗山(1736〜1807)によるものである。付属の書付によると、會津藩士で書家の山内香雪(1799〜1860)が所持し、その養嗣子･山内香溪(1841〜1923)が題箋を書したとする。 |
